TALES FROM THE MERCURIAL MUSE

AN ASTROLOGICAL BLOG

In another post I made on my blog, I talked about the importance of Aspect Pattern Astrology and the Cradle Aspect Pattern that occurs during the Mars/Uranus conjunction. In this post I am going to extend it to your own natal charts for the purposes of predictive astrology.

Beyond what is currently thought and talked about regarding astrological aspect patterns in natal charts, using Chart Aspect Patterns as overlays in a transit composite to the natal chart only makes sense. We already use transit aspects to natal charts, so by extension, we should be able to use any full aspect pattern and the energies it possess to gain further insight in our predictive astrology work. Any chart aspect pattern created in the heavens in transit then can be used with this same methodology. But since I have not seen others readily talking about this, it may be a new development in predictive chart interpretation.

WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT THE CRADLE ASPECT PATTERN

Huber, the Father of Aspect Pattern Astrology, tells us the cradle is benefic and protective in nature. Whatever is contained within the cradle is where the native feels safe. Everything outside the cradle is rife with contention; it’s foreign, unexplored, and unknown territory. And even though the native will cling to their zone of protection, their purpose is to leave the cradle to explore, grow, mature and evolve their consciousness.

WHY DOES THIS MATTER?

Chart Patterns are vibrant objects in themselves. The Cradle is especially interesting because of the protective zone it creates for the native. Also, in hopes to incite more astrology researchers to embrace Aspect Pattern Transit composites in their own work. Since this is a new discovery for me and most probably will be for others too, I hope we can all gain valuable insight not only during the Mars/Uranus conjunction transit, but also in additional aspect pattern transits as well.

During this time I will be journaling my own experiences to look for harmonious integrated alignments with the energies of the overlaid pattern, and if this interests you, I encourage you to do the same.

HOW TO CREATE YOUR OWN COMPOSITE CHARTS

Since there are no programs to my knowledge that are doing anything like this, I am creating these charts by using ‘layers’ in an image editing software program.

ree
Figure 1

This first image (Fig 1) is of the Cradle aspect itself, in perfect degree conjunction between Mars and Uranus at 26Tau19. You’ll have to take my word for it because I’ve removed all the unnecessary objects and other information since I will be using the natal chart to line things up. You will have to experiment with your own programs to best do this yourself.

The most potent energy from this cradle aspect will be during the four degree orb of Mars before the exact conjunction and the four degrees after, all of which will last about nine days. The aspect pattern remains in perfect form throughout the entire eight degree orb of Mars and all the planets are remain between 1-5 degrees from each other.

Next I want to overlay the aspect pattern chart on top the natal chart, to see what in the natal configuration will be in the cradle. So I’ve created a chart (Fig 2) with the natal points on the inside and just the planets of the cradle on the outside.

ree
Figure 2

Next, and simply (after many experiments in merging different versions of the two), here is the next chart, with both together (Fig 3).

ree
Figure 3

As you can see from the union of the Mars/Uranus cradle and this natal chart, we can start making connections with Huber’s work. To take it one step further, I’m including the transit aspects to the natal chart (fig 4). One more layer of analysis that is available.

Figure 4

So I'm pretty saavy in making my own digital charts, but you can do all of this with pen on paper too if that makes it easier for you. Then all you have to do is check your activations! Happy hunting and good luck!

Thanks for reading.

Because of the Mars/Uranus conjunction in July of 2024, we have the opportunity to see a real chart aspect pattern at work. Here is the world view of the pattern at the exact conjunction of Mars and Uranus at 26Tau19 on July 15, 1:31PM UTC. You can see the dates in your time zone in the chart at the bottom of this post.

Bruno Huber, the Father of Aspect Pattern Astrology, tells us the cradle is benefic and protective in nature. There is more to know about the pattern, and we will explain in more detail in this post, along with direct citations from Huber's Book, "Aspect Pattern Astrology".

The cradle aspect pattern is made up of two trines, two sextiles, and one opposition. It can be further be delimitated into two Talent Triangles and two Easy Opposition Triangles. We will explain these in greater detail in another post.

Whatever is contained within the cradle is where the native feels safe. All the planets, signs and houses within the cradle are the natives innate gifts, skills and talents. Everything outside the cradle is rife with contention; it’s foreign, unexplored, and unknown territory. And even though the native will cling to their zone of protection, their purpose is to leave the cradle to explore, grow, mature and evolve their consciousness.

The Cradle Aspect Pattern is one that resolves conflicts. The “glass wall” of the opposition not only provides the boundary of protection for the native, it also gives the native the ability to mirror the expressions of the people, signs and planets coming at them from outside the aspect. And, if the native is so willing, the opposition wall can act like a magnifying glass to funnel the feelings, needs and pain of these people or energies to help them through their burdens, and somehow with grace they do not get afflicted by them. If however the native does begin to feel overwhelmed, he/she/they are able to cut themself off completely and retreat back into the cradle and effectively disappear.

Because this native functions in life mostly from within the Cradle, they experience almost nirvanic harmony with their environment thanks to the three sextiles and the two trines. Pain only comes from outside the pattern. But by embracing withdrawal as a means of self-purification, this enables their harmonious nature to shine more brightly and intensely.

I just experienced this exact nuance myself. On Reddit, I began to help someone with their chart, based on the post that they would donate a little cash for the effort. I donate a lot of help for free, but who doesn’t like a little extra dough? So very quickly, the burdens that this person was going through were very intense. They specifically wanted to know about a partnership and why it wasn’t going well. I confirmed that what they were experiencing was in their partner’s chart. But then more and more questions were coming at me through the chat and I very suddenly realized that I was already at my limit for the amount of help I could give anyone. I sent her a kind message saying that we completed her request and that any additional readings would be the start of a new session, and she could use a link I provided to make the donation she ‘promised’. I sensed my need for retreat and found my exit point. This is the power of the Cradle.

Huber also points out that others can see the afflicted red side and, as a result, treat it with consideration. The two planets in opposition are influenced only by the trines. The trines possess great receptiveness, devotion, enjoyment, and flair; they exhibit strong control over the personality by thoroughly processing and integrating experiences, making failure almost impossible.

Then we can see the two talent triangles that form a semi-circular dish at the bottom of the cradle. If properly aligned by sign, they oscillates between their polarities. However, there are two possible middle paths or ways out of this conflict, one of the trine, and one of the sextile. Thus, there is a dual talent that can transform life's conflicts, giving new meaning and opportunities. This aspect pattern for an individual is invulnerable because there is always an escape route open into their own personal creativity, where conflicts no longer exist.

I am going to include the exact text from Huber when it comes to further interpretation of the Cradle, because as he says, “(it) depends greatly on the area of the horoscope where it is situated”.

Cited from Huber's book:

Cradle in the Collective Space

The classic Cradle feels most secure in the bottom half of the horoscope, where the fixed quadrangular quality is expressed most strongly. It feels less comfortable in other spaces because it tends to feel that it is falling out of the security of the cradle and being thrown out unprotected into the world.

In the case of the Cradle, many talents are gathered in one half of the horoscope. In this lower space we find the practical person for whom

everything is effortless and easy, who is happy with this and creates a harmonious environment for himself (as in the case of the Kite). The person takes life as it comes, works contentedly and needs no theoretical background knowledge. What lies above the barrier makes him anxious and threatens his harmony. He protects himself from this space, attacking anyone who represents it either openly or covertly. What he denies from the outset must not be looked at.

Cradle in the You-Space

If the Cradle lies in the You-space, the person is afraid of being alone, and makes every effort to maintain existing partnerships; which can

sometimes lead to a loss of identity. He wants to feel cared for and seeks a partner who is stronger than him who will give him stability. Many need motivation and validation from outside, from the You. In such a case, the partner or the task to be mastered can bring the talent triangle to life. But in the case of conflict, most react badly; i.e. ambivalently. There are actually two ambivalence triangles in this figure. They either allow themselves be wrapped up in cotton wool again and play the conforming child, or they refuse to continue the relationship. Due to the blue-red aspects, they can be forced into an either-or attitude, where they have to go back on possible decisions again.

Cradle in the Individual Space

If the cradle lies at the top, it looks more like a parachute. It is not grounded and there are no roots. These people are often ambitious. strive for unattainable goals and are constantly experiencing defeats and the thwarting of their plans. In reality they are too security- and stability-minded to really come to terms with the individual space, for the top of the horoscope demands moral courage, independence, acceptance of responsibility and self awareness. A Cradle finds it very hard to display these qualities all the time; it prefers to be left in peace.

In the Cradle there is also a highly developed aptitude that is called on to overcome a fear of certain tasks. In the upper area there is often a certain value system that people with a Cradle cling onto. Whether it is valid or not is not as important if it can resist attacks and provide security. Prom a positive point of view, a Cradle can also be productive; after all it does contain two talent triangles. Evident creativity can bring greater confidence with which to confront the empty hemisphere. Producing something that can be presented to others increases the

feeling of self-worth and inner security. In the case of the Cradle too, drastic crises are needed to be prepared for the confrontation of

anxieties and the implementation of one's own abilities.

Cradle in the I-Space

A cradle on the I side of the horoscope is a sign of introversion. Such a person is very self-sufficient and closed and avoids deep encounters with others. He protects himself from the outside, is preoccupied with himself and only lets invited guests inside. The inner space, the intimate sphere is kept shut and only opened to those who know the password, as it were. Such a person finds it very unpleasant if someone enters without being invited and if he is talked about or judged. He wants to live undisturbed in the protection of his inner space and only open up when he is sure that those who are knocking to come in are true friends. If a stranger intrudes, the opposition immediately becomes an impenetrable barrier; he would rather remain alone and is happy in his own world. This can often lead to real problems in relating to others.

In the case of aspects of Age Points located in this figure, the feelings of security are frequently shaken, thus making the consciousness aware of a change in internal or external conditions. The person should not stay in his "cradle", instead one day he should be "thrown out of the ‘nest’ in order to participate in the growth process of life.

In conclusion, this is a potent transit for sure. With Uranus and Mars at play together, there are bound to be some serious surprises, Hopefully, we can all stay safe knowing that there is a refuge of protection we can be in for safety.

Although Uranus is well known for its sudden and abrupt changes, and Mars for its destructive power, the Mars/Uranus conjunction happening for most of July in 2024 could actually be a very fortunate event - if you are correctively prepared for it.

At the moment of exact conjunction when Mars catches up to Uranus at 26Tau19, a perfect Astrology Aspect Pattern called a ‘cradle’ will be in glorious geometric symmetry.

Before 1999, there was a distinct lack of information regarding aspect patterns in natal charts. Bruno Huber pioneered research into this subject matter, so today astrologers are now familiar with many patterns such as the Kite, the Yod (Projection) and the Grand Cross (Achievement Square); and lesser known ones such as the Trapeze, the Trampoline, the UFO, the Surfer and the Butterfly to name a few. Huber distinguish 46 different patterns in their book, ‘Aspect Pattern Astrology’.

According to Huber, there was a lack of critical understanding in how aspects worked together in patterns in an astrology charts. Many published works existed that spoke to aspects, but not aspect patterns. The research was then developed and published in German by Bruno, Louise and Michael Huber at the Astrological Psychology Institute (API) in Adliswil near Zurich. An English translation was later released in 2005 with black and white illustrations and the newest version in color was only recently made available in 2019.

Huber began studying astrology in the mid 1900’s. In 1968, with his wife, Louise Huber, he founded the Astrological Psychology Institute, which became an internationally renowned school of Astrology.

Over many years of astrological work, research, and client/patient consultations, the Hubers book on aspect patterns came from the need for ‘holistic guidelines for astrological psychological horoscope interpretation’. These patterns, according to his research, ‘are of overriding importance and serve as synthesizing generic terms for the interpretation of the individual planets contained in triangles, quadrilaterals or polygons’. Further, this ‘includes the knowledge of laws of geometric aspect patterns, whose detailed interpretation constitutes an important part of Aspect Pattern Astrology’. It is the Huber family’s hope that ‘Aspect Pattern Astrology will provide the key to holistic horoscope interpretation and to the understanding of people’s (charts) true essence’.

The astrological phenomenon of patterns is a next level proposal to truly get to the source of how and why chart aspects manifest. In that we can find solace in higher octave connections made through patterns and further understand the native energies at work in themself and also during activations by transit.

ree

In the upcoming Mars/Uranus conjunction at 26Tau19, the great benefic ‘cradle’ pattern will be formed in the heavens. The cradle aspect pattern is the formation of one opposition, two trines and three sextiles. Because of its geometry, the cradle is highly energetically stable and benefic in nature. There is inner harmony between all the planets which allows the native to ‘adapt and deal with the demands of the environment’.

The cradle reminds us of birth and babies, so the cradle is a place of security. It is representative of a safe zone in the signs it encompasses. When we exit the cradle into the signs outside of its protection, Huber states ‘when something unpleasant approaches, the person can just switch over and is suddenly protected by an invisible wall from any attack’. The wall he is referencing is the opposition at the top of the cradle. Once back in the cradle, he/she/they ‘cut (themselves) off from it (the difficulty) completely and it then just ceases to exist and effectively disappears’.

Inside the cradle exists two Talent Triangles and two Easy Opposition (Ambivilence) Triangles. You can read more about the easy opposition triangle here:

The Talent Triangle being doubled can transform conflicts in highly effective ways because there is always a benefic escape route from any tensioned energy. When outside the cradle, one only need look to the security within the cradle to find solice, harmony and relaxation. Nonetheless, conflicts continue over and over and balance can continually be found without residual malefic energies following us back into the safe zone. The opposition provides a wall of protection that cannot be broken.

The aspects in the cradle formed during the Mars/Uranus conjunction are mostly all located in the ‘Impulse’ quadrant (first three signs from the Asc of the zodiac) and in the “I-Space’. The Impulse quadrant is related to ego, persistence, constitution, heredity and systems. The I-Space will pull us into introspective states where we will be very self-sufficient. This transit will be one of the hermit. Strangers and negative outside influences beyond self will automatically be shielded by the wall (the opposition). In this case the wall of protection is provided by the Sun and Pluto. This does not mean we will all be in a self-made prison of isolation, but instead we will only let those in that are good for us.

One of my favorite saying comes to mind, ‘They either feed your fire or piss on it’ - so be on the lookout for those energetic dicks and know you have safe haven from them.

When you look at your own chart, take note of the degrees and signs where this transit planets are that form the cradle and mark them on your own natal chart. This is your own private Idaho; the sanctuary of your ego, individualism, and intimate sphere. Then, observe where the opposition wall is for you. When you must go out and work with the signs and houses (areas of life) opposite your own version of the transit cradle, tread lightly - or better, postpone events that may activate points of contention. This is like a Mercury retrograde in a sense - all the signs and houses outside the cradle will be experiencing the turmoil that will send you reeling back to safety.

I think this Mars/Uranus conjunction may be one of the better transits we all get to experience, in consideration of understanding all the energies at play and how to use them to our advantage.
